Packing Backpacks for Backpack Drive!

Every year, our church has a backpack drive. Families are encouraged to purchase backpacks and specific supplies with which to fill them.   This year, we had a great time at Walmart picking the items out. Later that day, Elise and Isaac put the bags together.  We are grateful to be able to help some kids in our area who are in need of backpacks and supplies!

Cole Xander's First Birthday!

Monday, August 1st was Cole's first birthday! We spent it celebrating his life and just enjoying him! We had a little at-home photo shoot in the morning, then we went to lunch with Steven. We went to Don Pedro Mexican restaurant where Cole enjoyed eating fruit and some quesadilla pieces. He also got a sombrero put on his head and was the star of the show when the servers came around to sing happy birthday to him! We wondered if he would be scared of them singing the song, but he was not! He seemed to have a blast!

After naps and rest time, Steven came home and we went to Pelican's for snowcones. Cole had had so much fun during the day that he slept through the entire time at Pelican's!

This first year of Cole's life has been a huge year of transition for our family. When he was eight weeks old, we moved from our home of 10 years to a new home in my parents neighborhood. We love our new home but it has indeed been an adjustment. Having Cole here with us has been such a huge blessing during the transition time. Just looking in his eyes and laughing with him brings us  a sense of calm and joy in the midst of whatever chaotic experience may be going on around us.

It seems that things we have been waiting on for a while have all started within the past month...  Cole began crawling about a month ago. He does an army crawl where he drags his feet behind him. Within the past couple of days, he has actually started to crawl on hands and knees some.  He has also sprouted two upper teeth and two lower teeth within the past couple of weeks. He is also pulling to a stand and starting to cruise the furniture (just this week).  So he went from being nonmobile and having no teeth to being a three-meals-a-day eater and a furniture-cruiser within the course of one month!  He likes to have free reign of the entire house to crawl around. He does not like to be confined to the pack-n-play or jumperoo. However we do have to put him in those situations sometimes just for sanity's sake and to keep him safe.   He is eating table food now, although we do chop it up quite small since those teeth aren't yet fully in.

He absolutely loves his big brother and big sisters, and they are crazy about him!  Every morning, all of them make their way into our bed, and Isaac especially looks forward to cuddling with Cole in the morning. Later on in the day when Elise is more awake, she loves to hold Cole and carry him around.    Grace loves talking to Cole and speaking baby talk to him.  It is so precious to see them all together.

We are so blessed to have Cole Xander in our family! He is truly a blessing and a gift to us. Happy first birthday Cole!  We love you SO much!!!

Summer Sundays after church!

Grace and the misting fan...

Every week at church  in the summer, our church serves snowcones after the service. This year they have also provided mist via a misting fan outside. This misting fan is meant to provide a small bit of cool mist to passersby. However, Grace loves  to get completely soaked while standing beside the misting fan. Here are some pictures to prove how much she loves this experience...

Summer Movie Night!

A couple of weeks ago, our church had an outside movie night!  Steven was out of town, but I took the kids to have some fun together.  Isaac enjoyed playing inflatable games, the girls had their faces painted, and Cole enjoyed riding around the football field.  It was such a fun way to spend our Friday night!  The Lego movie was a hit, too!  Here are some pictures from our adventure:
